New Bedford police chased down an Acushnet man who was riding an ATV on city streets Thursday afternoon.

According to The Standard Times, a 20-year-old Acushnet man was chased for 15 minutes before New Bedford police were able to stop him from driving an ATV on city streets.

Joshua Benoit was seen just before 2 p.m. in the area of Weld and Pleasant Streets. He then headed towards the city's North End and led police on a chase down Acushnet Ave, North Front St and back to Acushnet Ave.

The Times says he eventually stopped, raised his hands in the air and surrendered.

Benoit was taken into custody and his ATV, a 2004 Honda TRX, was towed.

He now faces operating an unregistered snow or recreational vehicle charges as well as failing to stop a snow or recreational vehicle for police, operating a snow or recreational vehicle recklessly and operating a snow or recreational vehicle on a public way charges.

Legally ATV's can only be driven on private property with permission of the owner.
