Dozens of parishoners of the former St. Killian's Parish in New Bedford joined Bishop Edgar da Cunha Monday night in a procession down Acushnet Avenue.

The marchers, including many families, sang hymns and receited prayers as they entered their new religious home, the historic St. Anthony's of Padua Church.

St. Killian's Parish was founded in New Bedford in 1896.  The church was built in 1927.  It's last service was Sunday.

Damian Ramos admits he was shocked to hear about the closing of St. Killians, and wonders about the move to St. Anthony's.

"Its a new experience, I'll say that," said Ramos. "I've got a new pastor and stuff, a new church, but I don't know if what they do here will be different. You just have to get used to it," added Ramos.

Bishop da Cunha presided over a welcoming service Monday night for the new parishoners.
