FALL RIVER - Local, state and federal officials gathered inside the walls of the Amazon fulfillment center Friday afternoon for the first official tour of the 1,000,000 sq. ft. facility.

Just some of the attendees included Senators Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren, Governor Charlie Baker, state Sen. Michael Rodrigues, State Rep. Carole Fiola and Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia.

During a speaking program prior to the tour, Baker explained the significance of locating the Amazon facility in the Spindle City.

"Amazon just represents such a big brand and such a big footprint that we thought the message it would send to people about the Southcoast and about the turnaround that's going on down here would be a great message to send not just here, but everywhere," Baker said.

Officials were taken on a guided tour of the facility, where they saw how items are sorted, packaged and stored while also having the chance to speak with some of the 1,000 associates working within the warehouse.
