On Sunday, hundreds of bike riders hit the pavement in Mattapoisett to raise funds for the Friends of Mattapoisett Bike Path and the Mattapoisett Land Trust at the fifth annual Tour de Crème.

With a little biking and a few ice cream stops, the community managed to raise over $17,000, and every dime will go right back into the community.

Colleen Andrews, the community engagement and stewardship manager of the Mattapoisett Land Trust, enjoyed her very first Tour de Créme after joining the team about a year ago.

“It was the first one I have been a part of and it was awesome to see it come together,” she said. “It was such a fun day, we had amazing weather, and we had the most riders we ever had.”

Almost 400 riders and 11 local creameries participated in the Tour de Crème, during which riders chose from three different bike routes that are designed around the participating ice cream parlors, starting and ending in Mattapoisett. So, whether a rider chose the 9-mile, 24-mile or 40-mile route, every rider was treated to ice cream every few miles, from Robin's Nest in Rochester to Off the Hook in Fairhaven.

The money raised goes directly to the Friends of Mattapoisett Bike Path and the Mattapoisett Land Trust. It's a partnership that just makes sense, Andrews said.

“We aren’t the same but we have similar goals in providing outdoor recreation,” she said. “We really just value getting people outside and providing them with a fun time in the community.”

The Tour de Crème has become a beloved tradition that brings together the love of being outdoors with the love of ice cream.

It’s a duo that everyone can get behind.

The Tour de Crème takes place every year in May. Want to join in next year? Stay in touch on the Tour de Crème Facebook and website.
