YMCA Southcoast, Famed Magician Team to Make Hunger Disappear
Be part of an extraordinary evening of magic and illusion in support of YMCA Southcoast’s work to fight hunger. Make Hunger Disappear, with America’s premier female illusionist Lyn Dillies, is happening Saturday, September 10 at New Bedford's Zeiterion Performing Arts Center.
“This show will dazzle families of all ages, while helping to support access to healthy food,” Dillies said. “The show will be my full 90-minute production that will be fun for the whole family, while benefitting the Full Plate Project.”
Lisa A. Rahn, Community Outreach Director of YMCA Southcoast, said that many families are struggling with hunger right now.
“During COVID, there was extra assistance available, but not now – and with inflation, it’s very expensive to go to the supermarket if you’re on a fixed budget," she said.
As part of YMCA SouthCoast’s commitment to meet the needs of the community, the Full Plate Project partners with the Greater Boston Food Bank to provide an opportunity for healthy produce, frozen meats and fruits. All five participating YMCA Southcoast locations have distribution sites set up weekly to provide neighbors in need with good food.
In response to the COVID pandemic, Dillies, the award-winning illusionist, supported Dartmouth seniors, families and individuals in need of healthy foods via YMCA SouthCoast’s Full Plate Project. She wants to continue to support the program by using her incredible talents to help raise needed money.
“I’m impassioned to be involved with Make Hunger Disappear," she said. "This special show was designed to raise enough money to keep the program going for the entire year."
"What's truly magical is this partnership, that was a match made in heaven," Rahn said.
Dillies agreed someone up there is looking down on them.
"We can do it! People can make a difference, simply by purchasing a ticket," she said. "I promise, this high-energy show will keep everybody on the edge of their seats."
Make Hunger Disappear will be held at the Zeiterion Theater on Saturday, September 10 at 7 p.m. The show is recommended for children ages six and up.
Tickets for Make Hunger Disappear can be purchased on the Zeiterion website.
