TAUNTON -- A woman has been killed after a man who is a suspect in a narcotics investigation allegedly struck her vehicle with his SUV on Monday afternoon, according to state police.

State police said narcotics task force members tried to stop 34-year-old Hector Bannister-Sanchez of Medford while he was driving in Middleboro just after 2 p.m., but he allegedly fled at high speed.

According to police, the task force members and other state police cruisers did not pursue Bannister-Sanchez.

His Toyota Highlander SUV allegedly crashed into another vehicle on Kingman Road in Taunton several minutes later.

Task force members and other troopers along with Taunton police officers responded to the crash scene.

Police said the woman driving the other vehicle suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

She has not yet been publicly identified.

Bannister-Sanchez allegedly fled the crash scene on foot, before he was found and detained by bystanders and a state police trooper.

Police said he was arrested before being taken to Morton Hospital for possible injuries, where he remains under police guard.

Criminal charges will be determined by the investigation, which police said is ongoing.
