Woman Charged with Assaulting New Bedford Police Officer
NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford woman is being charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer.
New Bedford Police say Jennifer Correia, 31, was yelling and causing a disturbance in the area of 571 County Street Tuesday night at around 9 p.m.
Officers arrived and began to place Correia into protective custody. Correia reportedly became combative as police began to place handcuffs on her. Police say Correia kicked an officer in the legs and lower torso during the incident.
Correia is charged with assault and battery on a police officer as a result of the incident.
