Wind Supporters Urge Congress To Act On Incentives
Environmental groups, elected officials and offshore wind develpers are urging continued growth in wind energy production, and they're asking the Federal government to do its part.
Environment Massachusetts is a citizens group committed to supporting wind projects across the commonwealth, including offshore wind development in New Bedford.
Field associate Ben Hellerstein says Congress can help the effort by voting to extend two incentive programs, investment and production tax credits.
Supporting the extension was New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell, and Mark Rodgers, communications director for Cape Wind.
During a news conference Wednesday in New Bedford, Rogers said similar incentive programs in Europe have helped to create 58,000 wind-related jobs, and the same thing can happen in Massachusetts and New Bedford.
