Happy Wet Nose Wednesday! It's the best day of the week.

On Wednesdays, we are all about the animals that are up for adoption on the SouthCoast. With the help of local shelters, we give the spotlight to one animal that is up for adoption in hopes of finding their perfect forever family.

This week, a charming pup in New Bedford is hoping to find an adventure buddy that will give him unlimited belly rubs.

Meet Cardinal. Cardinal is a 2-year-old, 52-pound mixed breed at Lighthouse Animal Shelter in New Bedford. This sweet boy has quite the adventurous spirit.

"Cardinal is happiest wherever the action is," said the shelter.

Whether it's trotting the docks, cruising the aisles of Tractor Supply, leading the sniff-brigade on forest trials, or settling on the couch for a cozy snooze, Cardinal is there and enjoying every minute of it.

Cardinal knows his basic commands and does well on the leash, even when other dogs are joining in on the walk. He is unbothered by loud noises and crowds, but he does prefer a predictable environment with adult humans. For that reason, the shelter recommends a forever home without small children.

"Give him grownup shipmates, plenty of love, and a comfy spot to drop anchor, and Cardinal will reward you with unwavering loyalty and gentle cuddles galore," said the shelter.
