A 22-year-old Westport woman was killed in a drunk driving crash over the weekend. Around 2:24 am on Saturday police in Middletown, Rhode Island responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident on Third Beach Road. There they found an overturned white sedan, with Kailyn Newton unresponsive inside the vehicle. She was transported to Newport Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Middletown police identified 23-Year-old Patrick Carson of Newport, Rhode Island as the driver of the vehicle. He was transported to Newport Hospital with minor injuries and initially arraigned by a Justice of the Peace over the weekend. Carson was set to appear in Newport County District Court on Monday. At this time, he is charged with driving under the influence with death resulting, and driving to endanger with death resulting.

In an online obituary, Newton is remembered as a brave, kind, and independent young woman with an unforgettable smile. She was a graduate of Bishop Connolly High School in Fall River and a student at Providence College. Newtown leaves her parents, her sister, a large extended family, and many friends.

Newton's burial mass is set for November 23 in Swansea.
