Westport Man Leads Police on High-Speed Chase
WESTPORT— A Westport man was arrested on Saturday after Westport Police executed a search warrant at the man's residence.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Jamie Pierce, 44, after Pierce allegedly stole his neighbor's Honda CRV after the victim had left their keys in the car. The victim watched the crime occur and alerted authorities immediately.
Police later located the vehicle and attempted to make a stop when Pierce led officers on a high-speed chase of upwards of 100mph and nearly struck multiple vehicles on American Legion Highway. Pierce later lost control of the vehicle in the grassy median as he attempted to turn right onto Rt.88. Pierce was able to regain control of the vehicle and slip out of the sight of officers.
Massachusetts State Police later observed the vehicle in the breakdown lane of Rt.195 passing cars in excess of 100mph. The vehicle turned onto Penniman Street in New Bedford and struck a parked vehicle near Hazard Court. Mr. Pierce then fled the scene on foot.
Pierce was later arrested in Westport on charges of Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, Operating a vehicle to endanger, two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Operating a vehicle with a Revoked Driver's License.
