Westport Man Killed in Route 18 Motorcycle Crash

NEW BEDFORD — A Westport man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Route 18 Saturday night in New Bedford.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, 63-year-old Andrew Mindyas of Westport was involved in a crash on Route 18 near the intersection with Walnut Street at about 7 p.m. Saturday.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Mindyas was traveling at a high rate of speed on his motorcycle through the intersection when he struck the curb, entered the center median and struck a large cobblestone planter.

Mindyas was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
