Westport Man’s Clever Cheeseburger Hack Will Change the Way You Eat It
I don't get "shocked and awed" easily, but let me tell you, when I discovered what my buddy was doing with his cheeseburger, I was “shooketh," as the kids say these days.
Meet my friend Ben Harris, a true innovator who moved from Wisconsin to Westport, Massachusetts. Recently, Harris tied the knot with the love of his life but before he said “I do,” we threw him a bachelor party where I discovered he’s not just a happily married man but also a culinary genius.
So here’s the scoop: we all sat down for a casual dinner, and like the rest of us, Harris ordered a cheeseburger; but then, something peculiar caught my eye. When his burger arrived, Harris did something I had never seen before – he flipped the entire thing upside down before taking a bite.
Naturally, I had to ask, “What the heck are you doing, pal?”
Harris, with the confidence of someone who's been holding onto a foodie secret for years, explained.
“Here’s the deal: when a burger is made in a restaurant, it can be a little greasy," he said. "Once it’s plated, the bottom bun sits there soaking up that grease while it waits to be served. By the time it gets to your table, the bottom bun is softer and often soggy.”
His solution? Flip it.
“By turning the burger upside down,” he said. "You get a sturdier base with that top bun, which is typically thicker and better at holding everything together. Plus, you don’t have to unhinge your jaw as much to take a bite.”
Mind. Blown.
Harris’ hack makes each bite more satisfying with better support and no risk of a disintegrating bottom bun. Honestly, how did it take this long for the rest of us to realize it?
Try it next time you grab a burger. You might just find yourself pleasantly surprised, just like I was.
