The West Island 5K Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, April 30, at 11 a.m., at 41 Causeway Road in Fairhaven.

According to South Coast Today.com, all proceeds go to the Fairhaven High School Cross Country program and to the non-profit organization, Strive and Achieve (www.striveandachieve.org).

The USA Track and Field-certified course is mainly flat and it is a fast loop which goes throughout scenic West Island. The course starts off going downhill and then the end of the course has a challenging uphill finish. “Each mile will be marked, and a water station will be fully stocked at the 1.5-mile point.”

Registration and number pickup is available 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, and 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 30, at 41 Causeway Road in Fairhaven. There will also be post-race refreshments and an awards ceremony and raffle beginning at 12:15 p.m.

Prize Money will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers and to the male and female course-record breakers. The male record holder is Yannick Reihs, at 15:35 (2016), and the female record holder is Anne Preisig, at 18:28 (2014).

Award categories will be the Overall Male/Female Finisher; and the “Top 3 Male/Female Age Group Finishers” in the following age categories, which will be 1-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70-plus.

The entry fee for the West Island 5K will be $15 for K-12 students, and $25 for adult registrations. T-shirts will be given out to the first 600 registrants. To register, visit westisland5k.org/5k-runwalk/.
