West Bridgewater police were on the lookout Monday for drivers that looked up from their cell phones on Route 106.

According to WCVB 5, multiple accidents have been reported over the past few weeks in the town and the West Bridgewater Police Department believed that those who were texting while driving were mostly the one’s at fault.

Between 2pm and 5pm Monday, officers stopped 81 drivers, who they suspected of texting while driving. 42 were released without action, but the remaining 39 were cited with civil fines.

Similar results came about this texting while driving monitoring this past August when police stopped 78 drivers in one day. 34 driver “were cited with civil fines and one was issued a citation for a criminal complaint.”
