A new burger place is inching closer to the SouthCoast. Wayback Burgers has been making a play to be the next big burger thing in the United States, but can they become a thing on the SouthCoast?

The chain was launched in Delaware, but has spent the past 10 years expanding its footprint into New England with locations at the Rockingham Mall in Salem, New Hamshire, the Burlington Mall, the Square One Mall in Saugus, along with a location in Worcester.

Considering the state of shopping malls, it's probably best that they seem to be breaking that business model in Rhode Island. Instead, they will utilize one of the former Benny's locations.

Look for the new Wayback Burgers to open at the former Benny's on Branch Ave in Providence before the end of 2021. This will be the first Wayback Burgers owned and operated in the Ocean State.

Checking out some of the Wayback Burgers reviews on Yelp, it seems that we might have something pretty good coming to our backyard.

Nicole had this to say about their location in Saugus: "Not bad, not bad, for a burger joint at a mall. One tip: The burgers listed on the menu come as double-meat burgers, so if you want a single patty, you need to specify. I didn't notice until I had already ordered."

"A slightly above average, better than most fast food burger joint," wrote Myan from Revere.  She gave a more lukewarm review to Wayback. "Be warned, it's pretty greasy! It does take a while for your order to be made. I assume the reason behind this is as advertised...non frozen patties and made to order...I wouldn't say I'd go out of my way to drive here, but if I was in the mall I would definitely take something to go."

According to their site, in addition to expanding internationally, Wayback Burgers is now running over 160 locations in 30 states.
