Charges have been brought against a Wareham man in connection with the July 6th fatal shooting in the South End of New Bedford.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office and the New Bedford Police Department announced today that 20 year old Darius Gamboa is being charged with murder, after officials say he shot and killed 31 year old Julio Barbosa outside of the 7-11 at Cove Road and Rodney French Blvd. on July 6th.

Sutter says there have been three murders so far this year in Bristol County, two in New Bedford. Charges have been filed against individuals in each case.

Police say Barbosa was making a purchase at the 7-11 on July 6th, when Darius Gamboa's father, 38 year old Ryan Gamboa, spotted Barbosa and phoned Darius. While Darius made his way to the convenience store from a nearby location, Ryan confronted Barbosa and engaged in a heated verbal altercation. The argument soon turned physical, when Ryan pulled a knife on Barbosa and threatened to kill him. Barbosa then ran across the parking lot and was fatally shot by Darius who had arrived, and was waiting around the corner of the building.

Ryan Gamboa is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to murder and is being held on $12,500 bail unitl his hearing in on Sseptember 27th. Darius is being held on a probation violation from Plymouth County and will be arraigned at a later date.
