Voter Registration Deadline Oct. 13
If you're not already registered to vote, time is running out before the municipal elections on Nov. 2.
The voter registration deadline is just one week away, with the cutoff at 8 p.m. next Wednesday, Oct. 13.
In Fall River, all eyes are on the race for mayor, with current mayor Paul Coogan going up against former acting mayor and current City Council President Cliff Ponte.
Coogan is running for his second term.
Meanwhile 11 city council seats are up for grabs in New Bedford, although the incumbents in Wards 2, 3, and 4 are running unopposed.
That includes the beleaguered incumbent Ward 3 City Councilor Hugh Dunn, who is also facing OUI charges.
Four contenders are also running for three school committee seats, with current committee members Joshua Amaral and John Oliveira not running for re-election.
And two people are vying for a seat on the Board of Assessors.
New Bedford officials note that City Hall at 133 William St. will be open until 8 p.m. on Oct. 13 so residents can register to vote.
Early and absentee voting will also be taking place this election, although the dates have yet to be finalized.
