The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has released the identity of the man whose body was found by the side of a Dartmouth road early this morning.

He has been identified as 27-year-old Jose Cortez Cornejo of New Bedford.

As the investigation remains active and ongoing, the District Attorney's Office says no further information can be disseminated at this time.

At 5:10 a.m. today, Dartmouth Police received a 911 call from a motorist, who reported seeing a male collapsed on the side of the road in the area of 180 Horseneck Road. When police and paramedics arrived on scene, they located the Cornejo's body and determined him to be deceased.

The D.A.’s Office says based on evidence gathered during the preliminary investigation, it is believed he is the victim of a homicide.

The state Medical Examiner's Office will take custody of the body to perform an autopsy in the coming days.

Authorities ask that if anyone has any information regarding this case or may have been in the area of 180 Horseneck Road between 11 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday, they are urged to contact Dartmouth Police or take advantage of the district attorney's anonymous text-a-tip program.
