Update: Homicide Victim Was Former Veterans Agent In New Bedford

The Bristol County District Attorney's office has identified the man who died early Sunday from an apparent gunshot wound as 66 year old Donald DePina of New Bedford.

DePina served in Vietnam, and was the City of New Bedford's Veterans Agent during the administration of Mayor Frederick Kalisz.

Police were called to Brooklawn Park in the North End around 11pm Saturday on a report of an unresponsive man in the area of the parking lot.  The man, later identified as DePina, was transported to St. Luke's Hospital and died about an hour later.

D-A spokesman Gregg Miliote says detectives assigned to the District Attorney's office and New Bedford Police are actively investigating the case as a  homicide.  The body has been turned over to the State Medical Examiner and an autopsy will be performed.
