Chatham (AP) - Authorities say a helicopter crashed into a pond on Cape Cod, leaving two people with serious injuries. One of the injured was a woman from Acushnet.

The two-passenger helicopter crashed early Friday afternoon near the shore in Chatham. Chatham Police Lt. Michael Anderson says the male pilot and a female passenger were trapped in the helicopter, which was partially submerged in the pond. He says both victims were conscious when crews responded, but they had serious injuries.

They're identified as 48 year old John Ryan of Scituate and 48 year old Tyra Pacheco of Acushnet. Both were transported to separate nearby hospitals.

Police were investigating to determine where the helicopter flight had originated.
