The Bear’s Den Café at Buttonwood Park Zoo in New Bedford is bringing in some sisterly love.

Two Sisters Catering, a Dartmouth-based catering company, will serve up traditional family eats and some of their own recipes to zoogoers starting March 24.

Two Sisters Catering

Acushnet native and New Bedford resident Caitlyn Fontes began Two Sisters in 2016 out of a food truck. Soon, one truck turned into two as the SouthCoast fell in love with the menu.

When COVID pumped the breaks on their food trucks, Two Sisters became more of a drop-off and catering service, which proved to be just as successful.

“We always had the vision to open up a brick and mortar,” Fontes said. “We have our Dartmouth Street location coming and when the zoo gave us a call, we couldn’t pass it up.”

Fontes aims to have her Dartmouth location open by this summer, but until then, she and her sister, Courtney, will bring Portuguese flair to Buttonwood.

“The zoo has been offering the café for many years and we were looking for something different and new,” Buttonwood Executive Director Sarah Henry said. "Our director of finance had been driving by the Two Sisters sign in Dartmouth and suggested we reach out to them. They came in for February vacation and we were very impressed with their operation. They are amazing.”

What to Expect at Two Sisters

Two Sisters understands that little boys and girls enjoying the zoo may only settle for grilled cheese and pizza, so the business will curate a menu that makes everyone happy.

“We’ll have items like cacoila sandwiches and fries and we will run specials, too, but we will also have items like chicken tenders and cheese pizza,” Fontes said.

Fontes said she is thrilled to feed the community she calls home, and the zoo is excited to spotlight a beloved local business.

“I’m excited to build relationships and bring my love of food to the community,” Fontes said.

The biggest little zoo in town just got a whole lot tastier.
