Two Hurt After Elderly Driver Crashes into Fairhaven Home [VIDEO]
FAIRHAVEN - Two people have been transported to area hospitals after a vehicle crashed into a home on Huttleston Avenue in Fairhaven on Friday afternoon.
Fairhaven Police say they were notified of the accident at around 1:20 p.m. on Friday. When they arrived on scene, along with Fairhaven Fire and EMS personnel, they found a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport that was headed west on Huttleston Avenue had veered off of the highway about one-hundred feet before the home. The SUV then crashed into the southeast corner of the single-family home at 248 Huttleston Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, an 81-year-old New Bedford man, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Police say he was alert and talking with authorities before being transported from the scene. His 77-year-old wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also transported to an area hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.
A man who lives at the home tells WBSM News his wife was at home at the time of the crash. She was not injured.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by Fairhaven Police.
