Two Charged in Behind-the-Wheel Drug Overdoses in New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police are filing charges against two people after both are found unresponsive behind the wheel of their cars in separate incidents.
Police first responded to the area of 399 Union Street at 12:37 p.m. on Monday after receiving a report of an unresponsive man in the driver's seat of his vehicle. When police arrived, they determined the man was under the influence of drugs. The man was transported to St. Luke's Hospital.
Several hours later, at 4:18 p.m., police were called to the parking lot of the 7-Eleven convenience store at 1024 Cove Road for a report of an unresponsive woman behind the wheel of her vehicle. Upon investigation, police determined the woman was under the influence of drugs. She was transported to St. Luke's Hospital.
Both individuals will be summonsed to New Bedford District Court on charges of operating under the influence of drugs.
