New Bedford Police have arrested two women in connection with a Tuesday afternoon purse snatching.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says a 31-year-old woman and a 49-year-old woman were walking near Pleasant St. and Spring St. when they were approached by a group consisting of two women and one man.

An argument and fight ensued where the three suspects tried, unsuccessfully, to steal the 49-year-old woman's purse.

The three then turned on the 31-year-old woman and the male suspect was able to grab her purse and ran off.

A passerby chased the male suspect and was able to retrieve the purse.

However, the suspect was able to get away.

The two female suspects, identified as 32-year-old Eleanor Masse and 26-year-old Tamika Capo both of New Bedford, were found on Purchase St. and arrested.

Vicente says the male suspect remains at large and police expect to obtain arrest warrants for him.

Masse and Capo were arraigned Tuesday afternoon in New Bedford District Court on charges of Unarmed Assault with intent to rob and Unarmed Robbery.

Capo is also facing an additional charge of Unlawful Possession of Class C- Klonopin.
