Twelve Arrested in New Bedford’s North End Over the Weekend
NEW BEDFORD — Increased patrols in New Bedford's North End, with unified efforts of the gang, narcotics and uniform patrol division, resulted in 12 arrests over the weekend.
Ten of the people arrested were from New Bedford, with one from Wareham and one from Lawrence.
Members of the narcotics unit were assigned to the North End as part of an investigation into street-level narcotics sales. Through their investigation, they arrested Kyle Sullivan, 38, of 55 Ocean Street on charges of possession of crack cocaine. He was arrested at 5:01 p.m. Saturday.
Members of the narcotics unit arrested two people on charges of sexual conduct for a fee after being observed in suspicious behavior in the area of Brook Street and Tallman Street at 1:38 a.m. Sunday. Arrested and charged with sexual conduct for a fee were 29-year-old Lindsey Roderick of 202 Tinkham Street, Apt. 3, and 37-year-old Sheroun Ivy of 79 Pawnee Court.
Jonathan Gama, 30, of 244 Whitman Street, was arrested by members of the patrol division at 1:34 a.m. Saturday on charges of OUI liquor. Police received a report of an erratic driver in the area of 1095 Kings Highway. Police located the vehicle and, upon further investigation, determined he was under the influence of liquor.
Matthew Calvao, 34, of 228 Irvington Street was charged by members of the patrol division with operating a motor vehicle with license revoked as a habitual traffic offender after being discovered driving north on Acushnet Avenue at 8:57 p.m. Sunday.
As part of increased patrols in the area of Tilia's Restaurant and Cafe, 1623 Acushnet Avenue, police arrested Paulo Azevedo Dacosta Nunes, 34, of 109 Division Street Apt. 2 on charges of operating a motor vehicle without a license after he struck a parked car after leaving a parking lot on Earle Street. He was arrested at 2:34 a.m. Sunday by members of the patrol division.
Police were called to the area of 1114 Acushnet Avenue on a disturbance. Wilfredo Caballero-Vazquez, 24, of 207 Ashley Boulevard was throwing punches and had a small amount of cocaine on him. He was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, assault and battery and possession of crack cocaine. In connection with the same incident, Alex Mina-Marrero, 26, of 163 Salem Street Apt. 2, Lawrence, was charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct. The arrests were made Sunday at 2:32 a.m. by members of the patrol division.
Four people were also arrested on outstanding warrants. Johna Fonseca, 38, of 4D Vernal Street, Wareham, was arrested by members of the narcotics division on three outstanding warrants at Expo's Variety Store, 1643 Acushnet Ave. at 2:44 p.m. Saturday. Billieleigh Galipeau, 46, of 287 Coffin Avenue Apt. 3W, was arrested by members of the gang unit at Acushnet Avenue and Tinkham Street on three outstanding warrants at 12:26 a.m. Sunday. Nicole Docanto, 27, of 510 Ashley Boulevard Apt. 1, was arrested by members of the gang unit at Phillips Avenue and Acushnet Avenue on an outstanding warrant at 1:29 a.m. Sunday. Anisha L. Ortiz, 39, of Nye Street was arrested on two warrants following a traffic stop at Acushnet Avenue and Bullard Street. She was arrested at 1:32 a.m. Sunday by the uniform patrol division.
