Tuesday night at around 7 p.m. Mattapoisett Police responded to Shady Oak Drive after receiving a 911 call reporting an armed robbery involving a firearm.

Three suspects had entered a vehicle and were confronted by the owner before taking off, according to Mattapoisett Police Chief Mary Lyons. Mattapoisett officers notified area police departments to be on the lookout for a black Nissan Altima. Three suspects were later apprehended while driving in New Bedford.

New Bedford Officer Hank Turgeon first observed the Nissan traveling northbound on Route 18 and then eastbound on Interstate 195, Lyons said. A motor vehicle stop was conducted on the highway by New Bedford and Mattapoisett police. Three men were taken into custody and transported to the Mattapoisett Police Department for booking.

Three Wareham men were arrested: Spencer Ellenwood, 22, of 125 Minot Ave; Enrique Gomes, 28, 12 State St., Apt 9E; and Saveion Brandon, 22, of 27 Tyler Ave.

All three are charged with armed robbery while masked, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and breaking and entering into a motor vehicle with the intent to commit a felony. No further details were provided.

The case is under investigation by Mattapoisett Police Detectives and the Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Fairhaven Police also assisted, Lyons said.
