At least 10 people were displaced after a Thursday evening fire in the north end of New Bedford, though no injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to the call just before 6pm on the corner of Ashley Boulevard and Bullard Street.

The original building was located at 126 Bullard St., though it quickly spread to two nearby tenements on Ashley Blvd.

The cause is currently under investigation by State Fire Marshals, but Deputy Fire Chief Paul Coderre believes the point of ignition was outside the home.

"It looks like it may have started outside one of the buildings, in an out building, and due to the wind conditions and direction of the wind it spread to the two story home that was heavily damaged," said Coderre.

The three-family tenement on the corner also suffered fire and water damage but is expected to be okay.

"We had to pull ceilings, we had to pull the floorboards and what not to keep the fire out of that building," Coderre said. "But that building will be salvageable."

Both buildings were deemed uninhabitable for the night and will undergo further inspection by engineers.
