Westport Police arrest three people in connection with a break-in and copper theft.

An off-duty firefighter happened to notice a car pull up to a home listed for sale on Sanford Road Friday afternoon, and saw two men, one with a backpack, walk to the rear of the property.

A nearby off-duty police officer was called to the scene and confronted the two men who then fled on foot. They were soon caught, along with the female driver of the car.

Police have identified the suspects as 23-year-old Michael Mills Jr., 25-year-old Clifford Howard Jr., and 33-year-old Nicole Couture, all of 341 East Main Street.

The investigation revealed Mills broke into the house with pipe cutters and cut a copper pipe from the furnace, causing the cellar to flood. All three face charges of breaking and entering in the daytime, wantonly injuring real or personal property, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possessing burglarious instruments.
