Three Arrested in Late Night New Bedford Drug Bust

NEW BEDFORD — Members of the New Bedford Police narcotics unit were on patrol in the north end when they observed suspicious activity between individuals in two vehicles parked in the area of 136 Ashley Boulevard.

Narcotics detectives followed and stopped the vehicles and found crack cocaine, cash and packaging materials.

Upon further investigation, police made the following arrests:

Vicky Rodriguez-Matos, 18, of Desautels Street, New Bedford, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws.

John Coughlin III, 38, of Bates Pond Road, Carver, possession of cocaine, conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Calixto Olivier Smith, 21, of Deane Street, New Bedford, two counts of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws.

The arrests were made at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.
