Get ready mom and dad, American familes are spending more this year on prom night.

A new poll done by Visa shows that families are spending an average of $1,139 dollars on the annual high school dance this year, that's up 5% from 2012. Families here in the Northeast are spending the most at $1,528. Midwesterners spend the least amount on dresses, tuxedos, limo rides and other extras, paying an average of $722.

While parents aren't picking up the entire bill, on average they're covering 59% of the total.
