An outpouring of support came to Acushnet over the weekend to make Pizza for Porter a success.

Hundreds of people from throughout the SouthCoast stopped by the Acushnet VFW to help out the Guillemette family and, of course, enjoy a hot slice of pizza and an ice cream sundae.

The line to get into the hall wrapped around the corner and across the parking lot as vehicles were backed up well over a mile in hope of seeing Porter, who is fighting an aggressive brain tumor, on his special day.

This was a true community affair.

Victoria Ponte allowed the town to use the VFW. Kelsey Janak and Melissa Martins organized the raffles. Melissa DeSilva Cordeira and Sarah and Adam Desmarais organized T-shirt sales. Kera Burba kept the community informed every step of the way.

With an event like this, there's always a cherry on top and that's where Doug and Donna Coray and their crew from Acushnet Creamery came into play. They offered ice cream sundaes to all who attended.

Porter is battling Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive brain tumor.

Kindness won over the weekend as Acushnet showed up for one of its own.
