The Infamous Black Bear Stopped in Acushnet for a Three-Hour Rest Stop Nap [VIDEO]
It's been the talk of the SouthCoast and it's now the talk of the town in Acushnet.
Good people of New Bedford, fear no more: the infamous black bear that's been wandering around the city has left and has made its way into Acushnet.
If it is indeed the same bear, that is.
For a majority of the morning and afternoon on Tuesday, May 23, the bear was making city residents nervous as it hung around the upper north end of New Beige.
Just like Yogi Bear, this bear gets tired and decided to stop and take a little rest as it crossed into the neighboring town of Acushnet around 2 p.m.
Liliana and Daniel Costa of Acushnet were the lucky (or unlucky) ones to get the next surprise visit from the bear as it made itself known on their front-door Ring Camera off of Gammons Road, where it helped itself inside the recycling bin.
The Costas' son Steve tells Fun 107 that the bear walked around to the back of the house toward the wood line and found a nice tall tree to climb.
From 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., the bear treated itself to a nice three-hour nap with the best view of the town.
The bear eventually woke up, climbed back down the tree safely, and bolted back into the woods in the direction of Mattapoisett. Only miles away is the Mattapoisett River Wildlife Management Area, where the bear could potentially be headed in search of food.
Again, it's important to mention that no matter how "cute" or "cuddly" this bear appears, remember that it's still a dangerous wild animal and local police are strongly advising you to keep your distance.
