SouthCoast students are wrestling with the cost of going to college and tossing around the idea of whether it's worth the astronomical cost.

As an alumni of Johnson & Wales in Providence, I can attest to the cost of going to an out-of-state college. Just take a peek at my bank statements with my student loans coming out every month. I vowed to have them paid off by the time I'm 40, which is still a few years away.

Granted, some are lucky enough to have received scholarships while others may have the means to pay for college in cash. Honestly, looking at the price of some of these schools, you would have to be rich to attend or have won the lottery.

Living on the SouthCoast also gives us access to some of the best colleges and universities in the world, so it makes sense they wouldn't be cheap, but when you see some of the numbers, your jaw will drop.

Let's be real, those of us that went to college know it's the "experience" that we are paying for, to which I can honestly say, my college years were some of my favorite. Now I'm paying for them, but no one told me it would take 20 years.

More and more households are wrestling with the cost of continuing their education, especially with the access to so much knowledge right at our fingertips via the world wide web.

I decided to do some digging of my own on the cost of some of the region's most popular undergraduate schools. I know many high school students are in limbo right now, between applying for schools and getting acceptance letters, so it's crunch time on making a decision – one that will inevitably cost you.

Or if you've made a decision already, take a look and compare what some other schools are charging and you may want to rethink your choice.

All of the costs listed below were from a survey taken in 2021 and may have gone up recently. They were found online at College Tuition Compare.
