Taunton Man Held on Bail After Fatal Drunk Crash in Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Taunton man is being held on $50,000 bail after police say he was drunk when he crashed into another vehicle in Providence, killing a woman.
Richard Maldonado, 23, of Taunton, was arraigned in his hospital bed on Wednesday on charges of driving under the influence with death resulting, driving to endanger and causing injury, and reckless driving.
Police say Maldonado was driving drunk at about 1:30 a.m. on New Year's Day when he ran a stop sign and two red lights and crashed into another car driven by Evelyn Pagliaro, 63, of Providence. She was pronounced dead.
A passenger in Maldonado's car was also injured.
Maldonado is still recovering from injuries he received in the crash but is in fair condition.
