While some families rush to the mall to get a photo with Santa around the holidays, other parents take a different route and seek out the Grinch. Taunton photographer Heather Kingsley provides families with a chance to come face to face with the green grump through a free photo session at Memorial Park, allowing for some humor during a stressful season.

Last year, the 32-year-old Kingsley decided to follow her passion for photography and began her own business called Photograph Ventures. Her first big venture involved getting her name out there, so during the holidays, she called on help from a friend to host a free photo session with the Grinch.

Calling upon the Grinch for holiday photos requires a certain level of humor to fully enjoy the experience. Sometimes, the parents enjoy the experience more than the kids as they run away in tears from the big man in green, but by the end of the session, everyone is laughing and enjoying a unique moment captured by Kingsley.

“People seem to like the Grinch, he’s the opposite of the (classic) Santa. He’s ‘bah, humbug’ in a funny way, and people need to have a good laugh,” Kingsley said.

She recalled a little girl who was terrified at first, but eventually, the Grinch won her over, and both of their hearts grew that day.

Kingsley was thrilled to have her first event be a success and to have inquiries about another one.

A free photo session with the Grinch will be available to families on December 12 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Memorial Park in Taunton, with no appointment necessary.
