Passengers who were rescued by the Coast Guard from a boat off Block Island early Monday morning said that the object they struck was a whale, according to a Coast Guard spokesperson.

The Coast Guard rescued five people from a boat off Block Island after the vessel struck an object on Monday morning. No injuries were reported.
