David Ross doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning as the Red Sox edged the White Sox 3-1 at U.S. Cellular Field. Jonathan Herrera also plated a run on a bunt single in the ninth, while Xander Bogaerts homered in the sixth for Boston.

The World Series champion Boston Red Sox are shaving their trademark facial hair for the new year.  Outfielder Jonny Gomes said at a Red Sox event at Northeastern University that he intends to shave his long, thick beard.  Catcher David Ross tells WEEI Radio that he plans to shave too, that it's a new year and they can't do the beard thing again...
