Two of the largest teachers' unions are calling for the revision or elimination of active shooter drills, saying traumatizing students is not the answer.

In his weekly appearance on WBSM, New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell said he's in support of the planned ceremonies at city schools to honor the Parkland victims and to make a statement against gun violence.

The School Committee briefly reviewed district wide safety measures during a meeting on Monday night, but didn't get into the specifics of what's being planned.
