PROVIDENCE, RI — Multiple news outlets are reporting that a Swansea woman has pleaded guilty to defrauding her employer of more than $550,000.

Officials from the Department of Justice say 43-year-old Swansea native Jill Martinho, submitted falsified expense reports to her employer and did not pay taxes on the money she had received. Martinho was authorized to be reimbursed $459,224 by her company, but then falsified credit card statements and received over $1,000,000.

The Department of Justice did not identify the Rhode Island based company Martinho worked for but said she had been with the company since 2005.

Martinho pleaded guilty of wire fraud and willfully making a false tax return. Martinho is set to be sentenced on July 19th and faces up to 20 years in prison.
