Suspect Tased After Police Chase Through New Bedford Neighborhood
NEW BEDFORD - A man wanted by police was arrested after a foot chase through a West End neighborhood on Monday afternoon.
The man began to evade police as officers were attempting to apprehend him on several outstanding warrants, according to New Bedford Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Nathaniel Rodriguez.
The chase began near Pope Street in the area of Clasky Common park, with the suspect ducking through backyards in an attempt to escape.
After nearly twenty minutes, police located the man in a Pope Street driveway, and subdued him by use of a taser before placing him under arrest.
The arrest was made in the 200-block of Pope Street, directly across from the John Avery Parker Elementary School while classes were in session. It's not yet known if security precautions were taken within the school as the police activity took place outside.
The chase began at around 12:30 p.m.
