NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Public School Superintendent Dr. Pia Durkin says she intends on completing her three-year contract with the city.

There had been questions whether Dr. Durkin was seeking employment elsewhere, but she debunked those by saying she fully intends on continuing to serve the district. "I don't believe you could do this work in three years. I do believe that's one of the reasons why many urban districts get into trouble. In 2 1/2 years a new person comes in, then in another 2 1/2 years the same happens. That is why I sought another three-year contract," said Durkin.

Dr. Durkin's contract was renewed for three years in 2015, and runs out on June 30, 2019. Durkin says she's here for the long haul and intends to put this district on the map.
