A summer home in Westport was badly damaged by fire Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 3:22 p.m., the Westport Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 147F Cadmans Neck Road. The first arriving fire engine reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the structure, a single-family cottage. The fire was under control within 45 minutes but caused substantial damage, according to a statement from Westport Fire Capt. Brian A. Beaulieu. The fire department remained on scene to ensure the fire was out.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. It caused an estimated $100,000 loss to the building and its contents. There were no injuries reported.

Westport responded with three engines and was assisted by fire crews from Dartmouth, Tiverton, and Little Compton.

It was a busy afternoon for the fire department with assistance received from Dartmouth, Fall River and Tiverton for medical calls. Tiverton responded for a capsized canoe on Sawdy pond, and Westport responded to a medical emergency on the Westport River, Beaulieu said.
