A new study says the states with the most laws regulating firearms have the lowest gun-related deaths.

Researchers at Harvard University and Boston Children's Hospital say they used federal data on gun-related fatalities and surveys of states' laws regarding guns for their study.

Hawaii, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York had the top four lowest gun-death rates.  All four states were in the top six for putting in the most firearm laws between 2007 and 2010.

Louisiana, which has only one gun law, had the highest gun-fatality rate.  The study comes as the debate over gun-control legislation rages on at the federal and state levels.  ( Metro Network, Inc. )
