A downtown convenience store was robbed at gunpoint this afternoon.

New Bedford Police say two males robbed Costa's Cash Express at 211 Union Street just after noon time, struck the female clerk in the face with a silver handgun, and demanded cash.

After gathering an undisclosed amount of money, the suspects fled easterly on Union Street, but may have split up.

The first suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, about 5'9", with a thin build. He was wearing a light-blue hoodie with black shorts and black sneakers.

The second suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male, about 5'10", and a thin build. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and baggy jeans.

Costa's Cash Express is located at the corner of Union and Pleasant Streets, just doors down from the downtown New Bedford Police Station.The clerk suffered a cut to her lip.
