A 21-year-old store clerk was hospitalized due to injuries sustained during an early morning robbery in New Bedford.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says four males, three believed to be armed with handguns, entered the Petro Mart at 171 Coggeshall Street at around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

They ordered the 21-year-old clerk was ordered to get on the floor where he was kicked repeatedly.

A customer walked in during the robbery and was also told to get on the floor.

The 50-year-old man's wallet was taken but he wasn't harmed.

The suspects filled a trash bag with merchandise before leaving.

The clerk was taken to Saint Luke's Hospital and treated for head and facial injuries.

Vicente says the suspects were described as being between 5'6 and 5'8 with their faces covered.
