ATTLEBORO —State Police are investigating two fatal crashes that occurred at around the same time on I-95 in Attleboro Monday night.

Troopers from multiple Massachusetts State Police units have responded to two separate scenes, one in the northbound lane and the other in the southbound lane. Preliminary information indicated both incidents have resulted in fatalities.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., Troopers responded to I-95 southbound near Exit 1 for a body in the roadway. Responding units determined that the victim, a male, is dead. An investigation suggests the victim was a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a car which did not remain at the scene.  No vehicle was located the scene.

At roughly the same time, a car traveling northbound on I-95 went off the roadway near Exit 5 and rolled over into the woods. The occupant in that car is dead.

At both locations, the scenes have been secured and are being processed. The southbound side was shut down in the area of Exit 1. The northbound incident had the right lane closed near Exit 5.

It’s not known if there is any connection between the incidents.

The investigation into the facts and circumstances of both incidents are being investigated by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County.

No further information is being released at this time.
