A man brandished a knife and stole a Dartmouth woman's SUV Monday on Page Street near St. Luke's Hospital, then made her drive a few blocks before letting her off a short distance away.

According to Capt. Joseph Cordeiro, the thief stole a small amount of cash from the woman's pocketbook but gave the pocketbook back to her and did not harm her during the carjacking that occurred about 2:30 p.m..

After leaving her off on Grape Street, he then drove off with her vehicle, telling her she could find it later at the McDonald's Restaurant on Coggeshall Street, in New Bedford. Stephanie Poyant Moran, a spokeswoman for Southcoast Health System says the hospital is increasing security in light of the incident.

Detective Capt. Steven Vicente describes the suspect as a hispanic man, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and wearing a baseball hat.
