Southcoast Health clinics in Dartmouth, Fall River, and Wareham are now offering the COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccines updated for better protection against the Omicron variant of the virus, the health group announced Thursday.

Updated boosters from both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna have been approved this month for use by the FDA and were recommended by the CDC to help prevent the spread of the latest COVID variant, which is highly contagious.

The booster shots are being given at Southcoast Health clinics in Dartmouth at the Nauset Building at 49 State Rd., in Fall River at Truesdale Health at 1030 President Ave., and in Wareham at Rosebrook, 100 Rosebrook Way.

Anyone over 12 who has already gotten their primary COVID-19 vaccine series or received a booster at least two months ago is encouraged to get an updated booster, according to the CDC.

Those aged 12 or older can receive a Pfizer booster, while anyone aged 18 or older can get the Moderna shot.

Appointments can be booked through MyChart or the Southcoast Health online COVID vaccine scheduling portal.

Having a Southcoast Health primary care provider is not required to book an appointment.

“Southcoast Health is proud to continue to offer COVID-19 vaccination, including the bivalent boosters, to all eligible members of our community and encourages ongoing vaccination to protect against severe illness related to COVID-19," Southcoast Hospitals Group Chief Operating Officer Tonya Johnson said.

Those with questions or concerns are encouraged to take a look through the latest CDC booster shot recommendations.
