The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission has awarded Southcoast Health Systems an $8 million grant to provide more care for individuals with behavioral health issues and high-risk diabetes patients, along with improved emergency care.

Southcoast President Keith Hovan says the funding will allow Southcoast to continue developing concrete solutions to the region's most urgent healthcare concerns.

In all, the Health Policy Committee awarded a total of $60-million to 28 hospitals around the state to improve community based care for patients with complex social and medical needs.
